About Cowan Artists

[ About Cowan Artists ] Cowan Pottery Marks ]

In the mid-1920’s, R. Guy Cowan developed strong ties with the Cleveland School of Art, as a teacher, administrator and also a provider of cooperative education employment in ceramics for the more advanced students.

The young artists working with Cowan found him to be friendly, encouraging and so in love with ceramics that he inspired them to experiment with clay in many different ways. This experimentation resulted in the development of numerous fine examples of creative, unique and cutting-edge designs and shapes that were executed by the Cowan Pottery during the 1927–1931 period.
